October 26, 2008

Today was a beautiful Autumn day in Reno. The colors of the trees impressive, the sun warm and I was surrounded my friends.
This time three years ago today we were preparing for Ricky's service. But today we had a different kind of preparation.

Today was the day we had waited for, three years of waiting for Ricky's memorial bench to be made and placed at Ricky's first home, Saint Mary's Hospital.

Today there were tears, but somehow they were very different. There has been three of healing that has taken place and today was a day we could finally put some closure to so much that we walked through. Not that we will forget Ricky, that will never happen, but everything happened so fast and we never had a grave site and so today we all gathered to remember the joy and gift Ricky was.

Nurses, Doctors, family and friends gathered to honor Ricky's short life and to dedicate his memorial bench. God used Ricky to change so many lives, and the amazing part is to see his story continue.

There is a beautiful song that goes something like this... Blessed be the name of the Lord, He gives and takes away but my heart will choose to say, blessed be the name of the Lord. In the land that is plentifully, and in the desert places, my heart will choose to say, blessed me the name of the Lord.
